Course Description

If there weren’t any pain in the world, it would be great, except that most bodyworkers would be unemployed! The biggest reason that people seek out bodywork is to help them manage pain. One of the most common types of pain is myofascial pain.

What makes myofascial pain so tricky to treat is the fact that it will refer pain to places in the body that are seemingly unrelated to the source of that pain. So, when a client comes in, they can tell you where it hurts but they really have no idea what the cause might be.
Knowing the functions of the different muscles and the differences between them makes the bodyworker more aware of what is happening with the client. Being able to visualize what the body is doing anatomically guide the therapist to the possible causes of the pain, which may or may not be where the client is feeling that pain. While this concept is very likely confusing to the lay person, you can assure your clients that you can neutralize their pain in much less time by knowing its cause than by simply working on their sore spots.

This course helps therapists identify the pain sources and the patterns the pain takes from those sources. Once the pain pattern has been identified, the therapist can then assess which trigger points are active and how to deactivate them. There are illustrations of excellent stretches that can be done with assistance or alone that will help maintain your treatments between sessions.

Since pain is a driving force for treatment-seeking behavior, when you get a reputation for not only alleviating their discomfort but being able to accomplish this in less time, your business will boom! Your clientele will increase, their gratitude will be unmatched, and you can be confident that you are, in fact, a pain reliever!

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to list the contributions to pain and dysfunction in the muscles, compare and contrast active versus latent trigger points, and discuss the skills necessary for successful palpation of muscles as they pertain to myofascial pain.

Students will be able to master the following objectives with a minimum of  70% accuracy:
